Toyota Material Handling Australia has reinforced its commitment to forklift driving skills and to operators at the Sydney Produce Markets, launching the inaugural Sydney Market Toyota Forklift Challenge.
Held on the morning of June 20, the Challenge was a practical driving competition to find out who is the best and safest forklift driver of the more than 800 operators at the Sydney Markets in Flemington, NSW.
Entrants had to complete a comprehensive questionnaire on forklift operation and safety to reach the Grand Final.
The top 10 operators faced-off in a round of practical tests for the title of Sydney Market Toyota Forklift Challenge Champion.
Industry experts Forkpro provided the judging panel and set the course, which was designed to test the driving ability and safety - with all 10 finalists driving a 2.5-tonne payload Toyota 8FG25 model forklift.
The winner, with the least points deductions, was Daniel Terwisscha, from FUSRailsideBuilding.
He received a trophy and a Coles/Myer gift card.
Celebrity attendees at the forklift challenge including Commonwealth Games netball silver medallist Susan Pratley, dual Olympian Craig Stevens, former Parramatta Eels captain Nathan Cayless and Jayme Richardson-Paris, a world time-trial record holder in Para-cycling.
Toyota Material Handling Australia has for many years worked with Sydney Markets Limited to promote safe and responsible forklift driving at all times.
