Toyota's Quarter Century of Forklift Success

Toyota Material Handling Australia (TMHA) has retained overall national forklift market leadership and achieved a quarter century of dominance in internal-combustion counter-balance forklifts.

Official Australian Industrial Truck Association (AITA) industry sales results for the 2011 calendar year show TMHA captured over 30 per cent of the total Australian forklift market.

TMHA sold in excess of 4,500 forklifts during 2011, 12 per cent more than its nearest competitor and over 20 per cent more than TMHA's total 2010 sales.

TMHA accounted for one in every three internal combustion forklifts sold in Australia, with a market share of approximately 34 per cent.

It has now led the Australian internal combustion counter-balance forklift market uninterrupted for 25 years.

On a state-by-state basis, TMHA was the overall number one forklift supplier in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania, and equal first in the largest market, New South Wales.

TMHA also led the combined three and four-wheel battery electric forklift segments in 2011, and increased its overall 2011 sales in all combined battery electric forklift segments by 19 per cent compared with its 2010 sales result.

TMHA Executive Vice President & COO, Steve Takacs, said the 2011 results were an outstanding result for the company and its customers, especially with TMHA retaining the number one position overall in forklifts.

"To be number one confirms Toyota's trusted name in forklift trucks and the quality of TMHA's range of counter-balance and warehouse equipment products," he said.

"It's all about the depth of the TMHA model range, with the Toyota, BT and Raymond brands, and the overall quality of the machines in that range.

"Backing that up is our nationwide 100 per cent factory-owned branch network and the effort we devote to customer service and after-sales product support."

TMHA offers Australia's most comprehensive range of material handling equipment.

"The success of our products begins with our parent company Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) as well as Toyota's industry-leading investment in research and development, coupled with a dedicated commitment to quality," Mr Takacs added.
